Driving product quality and accessibility via design system components

For 12 months, I led design, usability, and documentation improvements for Workbench, Gusto's design system, accelerating the ability of product teams to ship accessible, responsive, and cohesive experiences.

20+ accessibility bugs fixed. This directly contributed to an improved UX across 6 key customer workflows and increased the adoption of design system components.

Propelling business growth. An accessible product has allowed Gusto to land large deals from companies like Chase for the Gusto Embedded Payroll API.

Improved internal tooling. Team velocity in shipping high-quality experiences spiked as a result of clear documentation and support services.

Creating guided experiences to navigate complex, tax-related tasks

Setting up state taxes is one of the most painful processes that customers experience at Gusto. From 2021 – 2023, I co-created a vision for an end-to-end journey and designed an in-app task system that empowered customers to self-serve tax actions while reducing the burden on internal support teams.

23.2% year-over-year reduction in tax notices. Investing in guided experiences led to a sizeable reduction in Gusto's tax notice backlog, which was overwhelming internal support teams and causing customers to leave Gusto.

$1,051,358 in savings. This was the result of clearly communicating state tax obligations to 200,000+ customers that all have unique business and tax requirements.

28% to 87.5% authorization rate. Guided authorization experiences led to higher authorization rates. Higher authorization rates enabled Gusto to automatically maintain customer tax info and help them avoid failed tax filings and notices.

Hello, hello! I'm Celine. I grew up in the suburbs of New York with my two sisters, mom, and dad.

In 2022, I needed a change so I moved out to Denver, Colorado. I'm kind of embarassed that I haven't taken a skiing lesson yet.

I'm a huge advocate and supporter of women's sports and believe in elevating the voices of underrepresented groups like female athletes. I also enjoy crafting a really good cup of coffee in the morning and I'm continuing to experiment with my technique.

In 2023, I went on a 2,500-mile road trip from Denver to Canada. I was in awe the whole time and now have a goal of visiting all 63 U.S. National Parks.
